Rodeo Grill, Palma
Yesterday Lino and myself, together with another friend (Cook, Somelier), paid a visit to Rodeo Grill in Palma at around 9:30 pm.
The mentioned restaurant is in the center of Palma, close to Corte Ingles (C/ Ramón Y Cajal 14, Palma), and has noting to do with a restaurant of the same name that once existed close to Plaza de España. Refer to the map below if you have doubts about where it is located.
Lino had advertised the restaurant as one with great meat to enjoy, and, first off: He was absolutely right.
Within the three of us we had two Tartars (Steak Tartare), one with onions, the other one without, but both with capers, peppers and various especies. Excellent, if not cheap (16.50 Euros each, but as starters for three thats about ok for me given the extremely high quality).
The (quick and friendly) waiter (the restaurant was only about half full, being this a Wednesday and given the late hour) prepared the Tartare at our table so that we could influence the amount of ingredients he put in. Personally I had opted for the Tartare with onions, but I must say that later I realized that Linos choice of having it w/o onions was the better one: Much more subtle and not so filling.
As 2nd we had a T-Bone Steak within the three of us (Linos decision, I would have opted for two), and, this probably was one of the best pieces of meat I have eaten in the last year (rare done, the part below the rib, a dream!). Turned out the one (huge! Lino was right again…) piece for the three of us was just about enough, we could not finish it, so again the not too low price (34.50 Euros) should be taken with a grain of salt. The mashed potato puree that went with it was delicious also, a great contrast to the meat.
Wine we took right off the table, and also this was excellent after opening up with a little air (dont recall the exact brand and year). We also took a look at the open (behind glass) bodega, they really sport a good selection of fine wines there…
Overall, a really enjoyable and almost perfect evening out to eat at acceptable price (if you spread the meal like we did, overall we paid 106 Euros including a Brandy and 2 Caipirinhas after the meal).
Rating in details:
- Food Quality: 5 (6 if I could)
- Dishes and Presentation: 4 (no spoons for the puree, no butter with the bread until we asked)
- Service Quality 4.5
- Cleanliness 5
- Price/Quality relation 4.5
- Ambiente 4 (good, non-disturbing airconditioning, not too cold)
- Toilets 5
In total that makes an average of: 4.6 = a full 5 stars.
We found additional info on the net here, here and here (the owner was detained in DEC 2006 for employing 30 illegal immigrants)
